Commissioned portrait series, UK-wide
Overview
Home of Metal is a project developed and curated by Capsule that pays homage to Birmingham, the birthplace of heavy metal and the band that started it all, the mighty Black Sabbath. I felt very privileged to be part of the team as the official photographer. In 2016, during Black Sabbath final concert tour 'The End Tour', Home of Metal team attended all the UK tour dates (Birmingham, London, Manchester, Glasgow and Leeds) and set up a pop-up photo studio where hundreds of fans were photographed.
The setup was deliberately simple. A clean white background, direct light, no distraction. The focus was entirely on the individual — their clothing, gestures, expressions and the pride carried in a band shirt worn thin with time. Photographing in multiple regions revealed both difference and consistency. Families, lifelong devotees, first-time concert goers — each portrait carried a different story, yet all shared a common allegiance.
