I photographed Lil Simz during No Thank You tour at O2 Academy Birmingham.

To describe her with one word is cool and everything about this gig exudes coolness.  Apart from her bright orange jacket lining, everything onstage is monochrome. Nothing overly flashy. It’s minimalist, but deliberate.  What stands out most isn’t extravagance — it’s composure. Even standing still at centre stage, mic in hand, she commands the frame.

As a photographer, that means you don’t need constant movement for compelling shots. A still moment — chin slightly raised, eyes locked into the crowd — can be the strongest image of the night. Unlike artists who sprint from wing to wing, she moves with intention. Slow strides across the stage. Her control makes timing everything. You’re not chasing chaos but rather anticipating punctuation.
