Arena spectacle, aerial precision
Overview
A suspended bed hovered above the arena floor as performers moved in slow formation beneath it. Corteo by Cirque du Soleil arrived at Utilita Arena Birmingham on 25 April 2024, combining theatrical narrative with large-scale acrobatics and twin-stage configuration that allowed the audience to frame the action from both sides.
Photographing Corteo required careful timing at the height of aerial sequences and partnered lifts. As a Birmingham-based performance photographer, I focused on symmetry, elevation and the interplay between costume detail and controlled arena lighting.
The production balanced spectacle with storytelling, maintaining clarity of movement within a technically complex arena environment.
