Crufts 2016 offered a fuller mix of perspectives. From the focus and formality inside the ring to the quieter exchanges just beyond it, the story of the event unfolded in layers.

I moved between structured competition shots and more candid moments: handlers adjusting leads, dogs poised with absolute concentration, judges studying every detail. Then outside the ring, the mood softened. Laughter, relief, pride and the steady rhythm of preparation.

Photographing both environments requires balance. Inside the ring, precision matters. Timing, positioning and clarity are everything. Outside it, instinct takes over. The best images often arrive in the spaces between.

That blend of reportage and structured event photography is what defines my approach to large scale shows like Crufts. It is not only about capturing winners, but about documenting the craft, care and character that shape the day.
