The Energy Around the Ring
Overview
Crufts 2019 was about scale, colour and personality. While the competition in the arena is always impressive, I found myself drawn once again to the stories unfolding around it — the handlers steadying nerves, the owners sharing proud glances, the quiet bonding between dogs and their people before stepping into the spotlight.
There is a particular rhythm to Crufts. Early mornings, polished coats, last minute grooming, and then the release of tension once the judging is done. I worked across the show floor capturing those in between moments — laughter in the aisles, dogs perched in trolleys, tailored outfits, themed jumpers and spontaneous embraces.
Large scale events like this require discretion and anticipation. The best frames happen quickly and naturally. My approach is always documentary in spirit — observing rather than interrupting — creating imagery that feels genuine and reflective of the day.
For event organisers and brand partners, these are the details that build narrative. Not just who won, but how it felt to be there. That is the story I aim to tell.
