The 1975
The 1975
Neon landscape, art-led set

Overview
Overview
I photographed The 1975 at the Barclaycard Arena (now known as Utilita Arena) in Birmingham during their UK tour in 2016.
The defining feature of the tour was the giant glowing rectangular frame of white and pink neon tubing suspended above the stage, acting as both stage set and branding icon. It turned the band into a moving art installation. From certain angles, it looked like a floating box enclosing them — modern, architectural, almost gallery-like. Frontman Matty Healy was central to the visual composition. Dressed in black, he contrasted against the glowing pink world around him. Under white spotlight inside the neon frame, he looked almost theatrical — isolated, exposed. Under pink washes, he blended into the aesthetic — part of the installation.
The images were produced for editorial and live music coverage, documenting a major arena performance in the UK.
