Metallica performs at Genting Arena (now known as BP Pulse Live Arena) in Birmingham during the WorldWired Tour in 2017.

With stage positioned in the middle of the crowd, this meant photographers were shooting from some distance away, behind the crowd. Great for wide shots of the entire stage (looking rather impressive with a bunch of white LED cubes suspended above it) but more challenging for close ups due to the distance and hands in the way. I decided to embrace the distance and focus on mood, scale, and context.

The images reflect that scale and control, capturing both the physical intensity on stage and the sweep of the arena audience surrounding it.
