Overview
Walking into Leeds Festival 2019 at Bramham Park felt like stepping into an electrified summer heartbeat. The sun blazed down over three days of music and mayhem, and from the first set to the headliners I was constantly shifting angles to capture the heat, colour and raw energy exploding across every stage.
Day one opened with a rush of adrenaline. On the Main Stage, The 1975 brought a mix of sparkle and swagger that had fans bellowing along to every hook, all crowned by swirling lights and a backdrop that seemed to breathe with the music — a photographer’s dream of contrast and motion. Later, Bastille’s set on the BBC Radio 1 Stage filled the tent to bursting; confetti, hit sing‑alongs and theatrical staging made for visuals that popped in both wide shots and close‑up portraits of the euphoric crowd.
Then there was Billie Eilish, met with a tidal wave of cheering fans. Her performance — part intimate whisper, part full‑on pop theatrics — yielded some of the weekend’s most striking images:
Capturing Leeds 2019 through my lens meant balancing the monumental feel of the stages and crowd with the personal moments that made each set feel alive. From the soaring choruses that set the field vibrating to the way lighting rigs accentuated dusk and night sets, the festival was a tapestry of sound, light, and human energy — and every photograph was another piece of that story.
