The State Ballet of Georgia
Overview
Photographing Swan Lake at the London Coliseum on 28 August 2024 was a unique experience—The State Ballet of Georgia’s first-ever London performance in their 175-year history. I had the chance to work during the dress rehearsal and photocall, a rare moment where the stage was alive with movement but without the full audience, giving me space to focus on what defines classical ballet: symmetry, spacing, and precision.
From my perspective, every frame was about timing and line. I captured the corps de ballet moving as one, their formations crisp and flawless, while also honing in on the principals at the height of lifts and extensions. Rehearsal light, unencumbered by audience distractions, allowed me to play with angles, compositions, and detail—balancing sweeping stage shots with intimate studies of gesture and expression.
The resulting images go beyond documentation—they tell the story of discipline, artistry, and the momentous significance of a landmark debut on a London stage. For me, it was a privilege to capture a company’s legacy in motion.
