I had the pleasure of photographing the dress rehearsal of Carmen by Acosta Danza ahead of the UK tour’s opening night at Richmond Theatre in April 2026.

This striking production, created by Carlos Acosta, reimagines Bizet’s iconic score through Rodion Shchedrin’s orchestration, infused with vibrant Cuban musical influences. It’s brought to life by Acosta Danza dance company based in Cuba, whose energy is captivating from the very first moment.

The result is a bold and dynamic fusion of flamenco, ballet and contemporary dance — full of inventive choreography and intensity. Through Carlos’ unique vision, this classic opera feels both fresh and deeply familiar, revealing its timeless, universal themes within a beautifully stripped-back and powerful staging.
